Hey! My favorite song off the "I Will Never Leave You / At the time of Your Death" album is "You (inspired by Senses Fail)".
When I was writing this song, I went out to a place I go that's a short walk away from my house, late at night, with my guitar. It's this small field that used to be a place where people would play soccer, before someone, for some reason, took out the soccer goals, and eventually added a handful of trees. I often record long recordings of me thinking or ranting about things, and stay there for hours, if I go. It's actually kind of funny, because a few hundred feet away, depending on how you count it (it's the edge of a dipping down slope where I sit) are often people walking by or in trucks behind buildings. I often wonder if they hear me when I sing, and I presume some must, considering I sometimes sing loudly.
This particular night I was writing, I suppose I eventually decided to try to write a Senses Fail inspired song. I wrote a couple, one of which was never recorded, and that I always thought was more similar to a song of theirs. I've always remembered the opening riff, though, and thought about recording it.
Anyway, You is what I ended up writing and recording. This has become one of my absolute favorite songs, where I captured a mix of vocal tones I enjoy, a great solo in the fade-out, and over-all recreated something that was uniquely me, yet similar to something of my idea of Senses Fail.
What's your favorite song off the album? Why? I'd love to hear about it. And you never know... If you speak up, I might just make another song like that one, just for you!
